Vegetarian Sun gets the MasterChef chop
Celebrity Gossip July 13th. 2011, 3:36amFOR someone who had never cooked meat until the week before she entered the MasterChef house, life inside was always going to be stressful.
Lifelong vegetarian Sun Etheridge last night became the 17th evictee after serving undercooked chicken to the judges during a Harlem soul food challenge.
The 32-year-old Queenslander said getting the chop was a “relief” after six months of 12-hour days where she had to literally learn how to cook meat in front of more than 1.5 million viewers.
“When MasterChef came along, I never thought I’d get in because of the meat thing,” she told news.com.au. “Then, when I did I thought ‘crap, I guess I’ve got to start’.
“It was a bit scary after not eating it my whole life and not cooking it my whole life.
“In all of the challenges, everybody was always stressed trying to figure out what to cook and I was trying not just to figure out what to cook but how to cook it.
“I learnt to cook meat on national TV and it was stressful, really stressful.”
Unlike any of the other eliminated MasterChef contestants, Etheridge, a credit analyst, has no plans to embark on a career in the kitchen.
Instead, the journalism graduate is hoping the exposure from the reality series will help launch a career in the media.
